THURSDAY 16TH FEBRUARY AT 7.30PM
ARE WE SLAVES TO OUR GENES?
Genes, Determinism & God
An evening with Dr Denis Alexander, Emeritus Director of The Faraday Institute, Cambridge, Molecular Biologist, Researcher, Author & Speaker
‘Teen survey reveals gene for happiness’; ‘Binge-drinking gene discovered’; ‘Study shows how to tell if that man in your life has caring genes’; ‘Exam success may be due to a handful of genes’; ‘Study links spread of religion with “Believer Gene”’.
Yes, these are all recent head-lines from the media.
But how much do genes really control our lives? Are we mere puppets pulled by genetic strings?
This CICC tour will examine the evidence, drawing on the latest science to do so.
The picture that emerges is a very different one from that suggested by the media head-lines. Genetics undergirds free will, it does not subvert it. And modern science portrays a view of human identity that is remarkably consonant with the Christian understanding of what it means to be human. \
Forward this event to your church members, family, friends, home group, and youth group, and encourage everyone to come along in a crowd, to get the maximum benefit. You can also download a Powerpoint/Poster/Slide from the web page below.
